Cytron Robo Pico: The Perfect Board for Robotics and IoT Applications

Jul 01, 2023

Cytron Robo Pico is a carrier board specially designed for the Raspberry Pi Pico (W), catering to robotics and IoT applications. This board comes with several features, including a 2-channel DC motor driver, four servo motor ports, and seven Grove I/O connectors for sensor and actuator connectivity.

In addition to the Robo Pico board, Cytron offers a car robotic kit called the BocoBot, which is based on the board. The BocoBot kit provides installation videos and five tutorials for various applications, such as obstacle avoidance, light search, line following, and WiFi remote control.

The Robo Pico board includes two DC motor terminals with motor status LEDs and motor test buttons, a header to connect four servos, seven Grove ports for flexible I/O options, and a Maker Port compatible with Stemma QT/Qwiic connector. It also features a GPIO breakout for the Raspberry Pi Pico/Pico W, reset button, status indicator LEDs for GPIO pins, RGB LEDs, programmable buttons, and a piezo buzzer with a mute switch.

The power circuit of the Robo Pico board provides automatic power selection from 5V USB, LiPo (1-cell), or 3.6 to 6V Vin via a terminal block. It also includes a built-in 1-cell LiPo/Li-Ion charger with over-charged and over-discharged protection, as well as a power on/off switch with a status LED. The dimensions of the board are 88 x 72 mm, and it has four mounting holes for easy installation.

The BocoBot kit includes the Robo Pico board fitted with a Raspberry Pi Pico W, various components such as Grove to Female Jumper Wires, a screwdriver and screws set, robot chassis, maker line sensor board, ultrasonic sensor module, light sensor module, TT motors, wheels, caster, battery holder, USB cable, and double-sided tape.

Cytron provides video instructions for assembling the BocoBot kit, making it user-friendly and suitable for beginners. The kit allows users to program the Raspberry Pi Pico using CircuitPython, which is easy to learn and beginner-friendly.

With its powerful features and user-friendly design, Cytron Robo Pico and the BocoBot kit offer an excellent platform for exploring robotics and IoT applications.
